Martin Bauer

Martin Bauer is Professor of Social Psychology, jointly at LSE Department of Methodology and Institute of Social Psychology; an LSE staff member since 1995, and a former Head of Department of Methodology. His research is on the public understanding of science as a social psychological phenomenon including social representation, international comparisons of public attitudes and mass media coverage of science and technology media analysis & qualitative enquires of science in society. He considers effective science communication as a necessary mobilisation with both opportunities and risks for scientific community.  Past research included the public opinion dynamics over biotechnology and genetic engineering, and the functions of public resistance for the development of science and technology. He is currently editor-in-chief of the international peer-review journal Public Understanding of Science.
